Before we can help you say farewell to your loved one, we need to prepare their body. The level of care we provide will depend on your personal preferences, as well as medical and hygiene factors.
We undertake basic care for each person who passes through our funeral homes. This will involve washing, dressing and preparation for the funeral.
If you are holding a viewing, we can undertake a partial embalming. This simple process helps improve the appearance for long enough for everyone to say goodbye. This type of preparation generally receives very positive feedback from families.
Arterial embalming is used to sanitise the body and slow down the natural decay process. Embalming fluids are carefully introduced into the body’s natural circulatory system. This process is several thousand years old, and may be a normal practice in your culture, but in Australia today it tends to be reserved for certain situations:
· Above ground burial in a vault or tomb
· If the deceased is to be repatriated overseas
· If a viewing will take place over several days before the funeral
There are different costs associated with each level of preparation which we can discuss with you at the Arrangement Conference. Certain religions prohibit the practice of embalming, and if you’re unsure then we can help you decide.
